One of the great things about the Typism conference is the 2 days of workshops that happen before it.
I spent a morning with a great group of people exploring how you can create experimental alphabets using new and unconventional tools and materials.
I really love teaching this type of workshop as it diverts from traditional hand lettering and calligraphy techniques and focuses on pushing the boundaries to create unique letterforms using tools such as ruling pens and balsa.
Students had a range of different tools and materials to work with. We began with some basic strokes before loosening up and getting a bit experimental. Some beautiful work came out of the experimenting.
