Our Wāhine x Suffrage 130

Our Wāhine x Suffrage 130

In 2018 I created a project called Our Wāhine  where I set out to illustrate extraordinary New Zealand women to celebrate 125 years of women's suffrage in New Zealand.

Somehow I convinced my mum to take part in the project (or she offered, we can't remember!) and she diligently wrote the biographies of these amazing women.

This project has taken on a life of its own in the last 5 years, there is website, e-book and poster which is regularly downloaded by schools, libraries and parents.

Earlier this year I was approached by the Ministry for Women to create 5 new illustrations to celebrate Suffrage 130.  The women chosen were Ruby Tui, Dame Lisa Carrington, Patricia Grace, Siouxsie Wiles and Dames Jools and Lynda Topp.

The Ministry for Women also invited myself, Arlo and my mum to Wellington to take part in an intergenerational event as part of Suffrage 130 celebrations. It was such an honour to take part in this event alongside another panel of incredible women.
